What are some good healthy treats for my German shepherd?

dream catcher asked:

I used to give him rewhide treats. But today I took him to the vet. I thought he had a toothache. But the vet found a piece of rawhide stuck in his gums. Needless to say he won’t be getting rawhides anymore.

buy whole, raw carrots and see if he likes them. I give them to my husky/gsd mix and he LOVES them.

Dogs can eat alot of healthy human food (don’t go overboard with this, just keep reading). Most vegetables, like peas, carrots, beans, etc can be given as a cooked or frozen treat. I’ve also known ppl to give their dogs cranberries and hard boiled eggs. Peanut butter is a great treat, and most dogs love it, but just don’t give too much (it is fattening). Cottage cheese and even American cheese make great treats too. Old Mother Hubbard sells very healthy crunchy cookie-type treats for different size dogs, and Dogswell treats are also very healthy too.

I use raw baby carrots for my dogs and also take a Kong toy, large for the big dogs and med for the little dogs and put kibble dog food in about 3/4 full then take either PURE pumpkin, p-nut butter or spray cheese in to fill. I then toss it in the freezer and the dogs love it, it takes them 15 mins to 4 hours to lick the frozen stuff out then get the jackpot. I also hide small pieces of biscuits around the house for my dogs to find. I put them on bookcase shelves, in corners, behind doorstops etc, it makes all the dogs search and keeps them occupied for several minutes.
